A Message from Bill Allison
Hello! I'm Bill Allison. Yes! I too was brought up on trout fishing and big game hunting in New Zealand. With over 28 years dedicated to the sport, Trout'n'Trophy have continued to provide a guided fly fishing service in the summer months and trophy hunting for the winter period. Sharing with those that have similar interests, we plan fully guided individual fishing and hunting trips for all seasons in Canterbury and Westland regions of the South Island of New Zealand.

Hope to hear from you soon,
Bill Allison

Professional New Zealand Fishing Guides
Wilderness flyfishing for quality trout- seeing is believing!

Experience New Zealand's Top Fishing Regions

The Westland region of the South Island holds mainly "wily" brown trout. These are generally larger with trophy trout of 2-5 kg (4-10lb) regarded as being the norm.
Fishing mid-Canterbury, MacKenzie Country and Wanaka to the south and Nelson to the north are regions offering more rainbow trout.

All these fishing regions may be visited from Christchurch while on your New Zealand fishing vacation.

Fishing Season
New Zealand Trout fishing is from October to April as the dedicated summer season, with the warmest period being from November to February.
Winter flyfishing is available from June on a few lakes and coastal rivers

Early Season
Nymph is mainly used followed by dry fly as each day becomes warmer.

Later Season
Dry fly is the order of the day - nymphs being used for that non-feeding "wily trout".

Fishing Style
Our specialty is sight-fishing (or spotting the trout) as well as parting with the secrets and techniques of success. For me, and it could be for you too, it is the art of using dry fly or various nymphs in the right order. Every situation will be different and that is the challenge. Try it!
This is classical fishing.

Tackling fast flowing rivers to slow flowing spring creeks, or on a lake edge spotting that elusive cruising trout will test all the skills you have - or wished you had. You will experience a wide variety of trout fishing waters and conditions.
Each with its own demands of how to present the fly, then the take, followed by the strike.
All goes to make for total satisfaction.
