Hello! I'm Bill Allison. Yes! I too was brought up on trout fishing and big game hunting in New Zealand. With over 28 years dedicated to the sport, Trout'n'Trophy have continued to provide a guided fly fishing service in the summer months and trophy hunting for the winter period. Sharing with those that have similar interests, we plan fully guided individual fishing and hunting trips for all seasons in Canterbury and Westland regions of the South Island of New Zealand.

Our Services

Guided Hunting and Fishing in New Zealand - with Alpine Hunting Service

Our hunting and fishing service provides individually planned big game trophy hunts and flyfishing trips throughout the central regions of the South Island of New Zealand.

  • All trophy hunting and flyfishing start and return to Christchurch
  • All trophy hunting and flyfishing are a mix of locations to best satisfy your plan
  • All hunting and flyfishing trips may be extended as a sightseeing tour of the South Island
  • All big game trophy hunting welcomes both bow and rifle hunters
  • All hunting and fishing tours welcome - non hunter and non fisherman alike
  • Accommodation may be private homestay, farm stay, B&B, motel, mountain huts and tenting.

    A number of locations are chosen to reflect the spirit of hunting or fishing.


    Locations
    The South Island of New Zealand is one of the last frontiers for big game hunting (tahr, chamois, red stag, fallow stag, wild boar and goat) and bird shooting (canada geese, paradise shellduck and ducks).

    With direct flights to Christchurch International airport from Australia, SE Asia and USA travelling times of 3-12 hours means we are reasonably close.

    Travelling by 4WD and/or Helicopter gives us access, the later is an optional time-saver

You can be met at Christchurch International Airport.


Accommodation
Accommodation during the tour will be in my log cabin at Lake Brunner or homestay 20 minutes from Christchurch Airport. Other accommodation may be fully furnished motels, mountain huts or tenting. The choice is dependant on your program and your standards of accommodation.


Cuisine
Kiwi (New Zealander) home style cooking and campfire cooking on wilderness excursions is our speciality.

Climate
Winter -  0 to 10° Celcius
Summer - 10 to 20° Celcius.
Whatever the season wet weather and cold weather clothing is essential. Alpine hunting clients may need special outfitting before departing Christchurch.


Equipment and Licence
All camping equipment, air mats, "Fairydown" sleeping bags are supplied for fisherman and hunter alike. All personal clothing and equipment such as rod or rifle may be supplied or hired.

Entry in to NZ with any of these items is no problem if you follow normal declaration rules on arrival. Fishing and Hunting Licenses will be arranged.


Rod/Line Size
Graphite rods size 6-7 weight and dry fly line to suit length 8'/6"-9'6". Line color should be earthy brown and/or green - not bright or florescent.
